The Investor Profile
About the Investor Profile
Many early stage investors find that it's difficult and time consuming to find quality deal flow: investment opportunities that are closely aligned in all respects with the investor's own needs and interests.
Part of the problem is that "quality" means different things to different investors. Another part of the problem is that the techniques for measuring investors' interests aren't widely available -- and tools to use data about investor interests to match the investor to entrepreneurs aren't well developed.
To help investors find the right deals, the Angel Capital Summit is pleased to make available the Investor Profile, a survey tool developed by the Business Catapult. The Investor Profile includes two parts: a survey to capture your investment interests, and an investor skills self-assessment to help you rate your skills as an early stage investor.
Why Should I Fill Out an Investor Profile?
First and foremost, so that we can help you screen the deal flow in the Angel Capital Summit more effectively. Have you seen the "tag cloud" on the front page of this web site? This tag cloud shows the keywords that entrepreneurs used to describe their companies as investment opportunities. The larger the keyword, the more frequently it's used.
What if we had a second tag cloud showing keywords that describe investors' interests? That'd give us a very visual picture of the overlap between the entrepreneurial and investment communities -- and the gaps. On the investor profile, we'll ask you to select keywords that describe your interests, and with enough data, we'll be able to build the investor's "tag cloud".
Beyond the global picture, though, why should you fill out an Investor Profile?
- To help find the right deals: all accredited investors who fill out the profile will have special access, for 30 days after the event, to an online database of the presenting companies and those applicants who chose to participate in this program. That's over 100 companies in all. You'll be able to search these companies using a keyword-based search mechanism.
- To improve your investment skills: if you're new to early stage investing, the Investor Profile's skills assessment section will give you insights into where you may need help. And, if you'd like, you can participate in our investor mentoring program. In this program, we'll help connect you to other investors who are experienced in early stage investing, and who have similar interests.
- To give back to the investing community: if you're an experienced early stage investor, you can indicate your willingness to serve as a mentor to other investors.
- It's private: your Investor Profile is accessible only to you and those with whom you chose to share it, and you may delete it at any time.
To take the Investor Profile, first create a login account on this web site. (That's how we make sure only you have access to your profile data.) You can do this by clicking on the "Create new account" link, just under the login boxes. Then log in, and click on the "My investor profile" link to fill out your Investor Profile.
